So I was cruising the blog over at Qualified Remodeler and I ran across their piece on energy audits being mandatory when homeowners try to sell their homes in Austin, Texas. It’s 2009 and a home inspection isn’t enough anymore…now you need an energy efficiency audit in San Francisco, Berkeley and Austin.
While mandatory energy audits might seem somewhat extreme to the average homeowner, who just wants to sell their home and move, these audits could represent an excellent opportunity for the clever home improvement company.
Energy audits are becoming a more popular offer to consumers and present a tailor-made entrance into the home for remodelers. Diversified home improvement companies have the opportunity to help homeowners understand the nature of energy inefficiency and start the sales process for any number of products: roofing, windows, insulation, exterior coatings, and solar heat and hot water – just to start.
And while new homeowners often want to make immediate cosmetic repairs, the frustrating economy combined with the new green movement are warming consumers to more practical improvements in the home – especially ones that will lower their energy bills.
